Most people following the OPTIFAST partial meal replacement program consume two to four meal replacement products each day in place of up to two meals and snacks. You will also eat at least one self-prepared, low-calorie or frozen diet meal. Long-term weight loss success depends on your ability to change your lifestyle habits, so this program also includes weekly lifestyle education sessions and periodic medical monitoring to ensure you remain in good health while losing weight.
Once you reach your weight loss goal, Dr. Treyzon will help you transition back to self-prepared meals. For convenience and improved weight control, some patients choose to use one or two meal replacement products each day for weight maintenance.
We strongly recommend you participate in our weight maintenance program for at least the first six months after you reach your goal weight. Doing so boosts your chances of success since studies have shown that people who participate in a weight maintenance support group for at least six months after active weight loss have an increased chance of weight maintenance success.
As an additional incentive, participation in our weight maintenance program gives you the opportunity to purchase OPTIFAST products for use in your daily diet. Some of our patients like to substitute one of two servings of OPTIFAST products a day for traditional foods as part of their weight maintenance plan.
Weight loss is more rapid on the OPTIFAST full meal replacement formula diet than it is on the partial program. If you have certain medical conditions that may be exacerbated by rapid weight loss, you may want to lose weight at a more gradual pace. That would make you a good candidate for the partial meal replacement plan.
If you travel a lot in connection with your job or must entertain clients, you may find the full meal replacement plan too restrictive and chose the partial plan. Similarly, if you must often cook for your family, you may choose the partial plan so that you can enjoy a meal each day with your family.
People following the partial meal replacement program often find that they end up cooking healthier food for their families as well. Everyone benefits from that situation.
A partial meal replacement plan may also be a good fit if your job requires a lot of physical work or the operation of heavy machinery. The partial meal replacement plan can also be adapted to the weight loss needs of overweight and obese adolescents.
The OPTIFAST partial meal replacement program is appropriate for you if you have a BMI of 25-29.9 and are free of health risks or if you who have a higher BMI and greater health risks but are not good candidate for the full meal replacement formula.
